Children's Story: by

As I stroll on down the road
I meet a giant purple toad
Going to a party
"Can I come?" I ask with glee
He leaps on past and croaks at me
I say to him, "Whatever's wrong?"
The toad, he grunts, "Ning nong"
and hops along his way

Children's Story: by

As I stroll on down the street
I meet a mouse with giant feet
Going to a party
"Can I come?" I ask with joy
He gapes at me and squeaks, "Oh boy!"
I say to him, "Whatever's wrong?"
The mouse, he squeals, "Ning nong"
and scurries on his way

Children's Story: by

As I stroll on down the path
I meet a blue and yellow calf
Going to a party
"Can I come?" I ask so nice
He looks at me, not once but twice
I say to him, "Whatever's wrong?"
The calf, he bleats, "Ning nong"
and hurries on his way

Children's Story: by

As I stroll on down the track
I meet a pig in a bright red sack
Going to a party
"Can I come?" I gaily ask
She oinks at me somewhat aghast
I say to her, "Whatever's wrong?"
"Don't be daft you nutty Ning nong,"
Says she, strutting on her way

Children's Story: by

As I stroll on down the lane
I meet a horse with a dazzling mane
Going to a party
"Can I come?" I nearly plead
She shakes her head and neighs at me
I say to her, "Whatever's wrong?"
The mare, she snorts, "Ning nong"
and trots along her way

Children's Story: by

"See here, see here," I say aloud
and call behind the party crowd
"Why can't I come and have some fun?
"I want to race, I want to run"
Say Toad and Pig and Mr Mouse
"You can't attend the party house"
Say Calf along with Bright Pink Horse
"You cannot come, of course, of course"

Children's Story: by

"Why can't I come?" I ask again
"If not right now then tell me when
to come to your party"
They say to me "Oh, get along
You cannot come, you don't belong
You silly billy old ning nong!"

Children's Story: by

It makes me sad, it makes me cry
I flap my wings, I try to fly
I feel the tears, because I heard
You're just a plain old kiwi bird
that stays at home, that stays inside
Go on home, go home and hide

Children's Story: by

As I pull a worm for tea
and dine on it so gloomily
I think about a party
I do not wish to feel so glum
I do so wish to have some fun
and go to a party

Children's Story: by

As I walk into the bush
I think about my special wish
to go to a party
Further in, to my surprise
I can't believe my little eyes
There I see a party!

Children's Story: by

Lots of friends for me to meet
Lots of treats for us to eat
Cicada-shell lanterns are hanging from trees
Glowworms are glowing and swing in the breeze
A bush-creatures' party!

Children's Story: by

Hundreds of weta lined up in rows
rubbing their legs from knees to their toes
And flying on in to this fun party den
a friendly young bat, it's Just Hangin' Ben
He's come to the party!

Children's Story: by

Songbirds are tweeting, a warble so sweet
Their beautiful tune is, oh, such a treat
Chirpy chirpy cheep cheep tweet toot toot
Then an owl joins in with a soft hoot hoot
Singers for the party

Children's Story: by

I squeal Woop woop! and I cry Wow wee!
and I laugh out loud and shout Whoopee!
We're creatures nocturnal, friends of the night
Wiggling and swaying to the left and the right
Dancing at a party!
