I am a mouse.
Do I live in a house?
Oh! no, not I.
I live outside; I'm wild and free, no pesky humans chasing me.
Dogs and cats and some big rats these things occasionally.
I'm cunning and fast and food I crave, no shortage there for me.
Eyes like a hawk but we won't go there as they would like ME for their tea.
I'm small and cute but don't be fooled a killing instinct I do have.
I smell my pray from far away and very rarely miss.
A tummy full, a cosy snooze and I am off again.
That darn cat will always chase but he is far too slow.
I know the land and I can hide in places he can't go.
The weather now is turning cold and food is very scarce.
I see the house with warmth and lights but to go inside gives me a fright.
They lay out traps all around and then you here the awful sound.
Thwack!!!
I lose so many friends who crave the warmth and light but I will stay outside and resist the urge with all my might.
I am a mouse.
Do I live in a house?
Oh! no not I.
